Event Detail

Session Overview: Black birthing people experience disproportionately high rates of maternal and postpartum complications and related deaths, driven by systemic racism, implicit bias, and inequities within health care systems. In this session, we will focus on the vital role nurses play in resisting these harms and restoring trust, dignity, and safety in perinatal care. Participants will explore practical, evidence-based strategies for advocating for Black birthing people during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period — from providing culturally responsive care to challenging institutional biases and supporting systemic change. Through a framework of reproductive justice and patient-centered advocacy, nurses will learn how to intervene at the bedside and beyond, fostering environments where Black birthing people can thrive across the perinatal continuum.

Attendees of this webinar will be eligible to receive 1.0 continuing education credit (CE) upon completion of the event survey. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP17578, for 1.0 contact hours.
